Some Random Things
Ok, I got the idea elsewhere, but it is a nice idea to have a repository to put random tidbits. So I have this page here. For important/really relevant information, please read the research/publications pages; not this one.
- My
Erdős number is 3 (through William Yurcik->Ruth Silverman->Paul Erdős).
- I wrote an article on Linux History, and that became one of the most cited articles on the topic. This article has been translated to Hebrew, Korean, Bulgarian, Romanian, and a few other languages.
- I became a Wikipedia Administrator on August 2005.
- My friends from BUET (my undergrad school) are in Yale, Rochester, UT San Antonio, Rutgers, SUNY-StonyBrook, IIT, and Marquette University in the USA, and in Dalhousie, Waterloo, Victoria, Saskatchewan unviersities in Canada. Some others are in Sweden.
- Champaign-Urbana is a pair of cities, for all practical purposes, fused together.
- My undergraduate thesis advisor was Prof. Mohammad Kaykobad of BUET, who is one of the most caring educators I've ever met.
- I was the national school quiz champion in Bangladesh during the Education Week competition in 1992.
- Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel Prize for Literature (1913) winner, lived in Urbana for a year. There is a Tagore Center and an annual Tagore Festival held in his memory.
- I got interviewed by BBC World Service in May 2006. It was broadcast all over the world.
